I have been working on my 6th cello recently.

This is broadly the same as No.5 which turned out so well but with a few design changes:

• Reduced the pointiness of the corners a little
• Making the f-holes a little more vertical and a tad longer (144mm)
• Trying out a different end pin supplier (Glasser carbon fibre)
• Reducing the distance from the crook of the neck to the top edge a little (38mm perpendicular distance or 44mm with callipers)
• Aiming for mode 2 and 5 frequencies of 65hz and 130hz which were achieved
• Finishing with a darker chestnut brown colour
• Finished all up weight ended up at 3.06kg

On first playing this is a definite improvement on my earlier instruments with a very even tone across the strings but has much more to give when you ask it, particularly up the A string.

A bit of fettling to reduce weight under the end of fingerboard and re-carve the scroll to take some weight out and the B0 resonance increased from  a rather low 82Hz to 93Hz and the effect on the lower strings of the instrument shows a marked improvement with a wonderful fullness of tone and all up weight was reduced to 3.01Kg.
